Because we know that healthy lifestyles are achieved through nurturing mind, body and spirit, well-being and fitness at the YMCA includes more than just working out. In addition to our physical fitness classes and facilities, we provide educational programs to promote healthier decisions, and offer a variety of programs that support physical, intellectual and spiritual strength. Participation in fitness related activities that are listed on this page are for individuals over the age of 13. It is recommended that you seek out a physician's approval before starting an exercise plan. |

ADULT KARATE and KENDO CLASSES Our Instructors teach self-defense and mental discipline through a classical style of Karate developed on the island of Okinawa. Our instructors hold black belt certificates in the Ryukyu Kempo style of Okinawa karate. Adults will learn the basic techniques of blocking, punching, kicking and efficient forms of self-defense. Advanced students will learn the weapon arts (Kobudo) of Okinawa. We place equal emphasis on the development of character and strive for the physical and spiritual development of adult students in a non-competitive atmosphere. The Y pays an annual membership fee to the International Ryukyu Kempo Association for each Intermediate and Advanced student. |
